Our Elkins field office opens November 1, 2026. It lets us work Randolph County and north-central West Virginia on local schedules instead of driving in from our Point of Rocks, Maryland headquarters — serving Elkins and the towns within a one- to two-hour drive.
Why mold shows up in Elkins
Elkins sits deep in West Virginia’s mountains, a historic timber-and-railroad town ringed by the Monongahela National Forest. Its housing runs to older frame and brick homes from the town’s late-19th and early-20th-century heyday, set in a cool, wooded, high-rainfall mountain valley — a setting that keeps structures shaded, damp, and slow to dry.
Heavy mountain precipitation, humid summers, hard freeze-thaw winters, and older homes with aging basements and crawl spaces combine into persistent hidden-moisture conditions. Water has a long memory here. The Election Day flood of November 1985 hit the Tygart Valley and Cheat basins hard, and many families still measure high water against it. The July 2026 storms that flooded Buckhannon and Weston also pushed flood warnings into northwestern Randolph County, and many affected homes were dried and closed back up quickly. Framing, subfloors, and crawl spaces can stay wet long after the surfaces look dry.

Indoor spore counts cannot be meaningfully interpreted without a contemporaneous outdoor control, because indoor spore populations derive substantially from outdoor air. A report showing indoor counts with no outdoor reference is not defensible. Many firms skip it on screening work to save a sample. We do not, and we never have.

Pricing and travel, up front
On-site assessments start at $895 for up to 1,500 square feet of conditioned space. Full ranges are on our Services & Fees page.
Beginning November 1, 2026, travel is measured from whichever of our two offices — Elkins, WV or Point of Rocks, MD — is closer to you. There is no travel charge within 25 miles of either office. Beyond that, travel is $1.25 per mile round trip for the distance past 25 miles each way: a home 45 miles from Elkins is 20 billable miles each way, 40 miles round trip, or $50.00. Mileage always appears as its own line on your quote, agreed before anything is scheduled.
Radon testing is not offered in West Virginia.
