What Mycotoxins Are

Mycotoxins are toxic compounds produced by certain molds — species like Stachybotrys, Aspergillus, Penicillium, and Chaetomium. They are not the mold itself and not the spores; they're chemical byproducts that can settle into dust, drywall, carpet, and HVAC systems and linger long after the visible mold has been cleaned or dried out.

That's why a standard air sample or spore count can come back reassuring while a genuine problem remains: those tests count mold, not the toxins it left behind. How We Sample
